Interim results 2024–2026

Published interim reports (Weed Care, ISGF, Uni Bern) show no rise in problematic use and a decline in black-market contact among participants.

  • Weed Care (Basel): 74 % of participants stabilised or reduced consumption at 18 months; no increase in psychotic episodes.
  • Züri Can (Zurich): 82 % protocol adherence; median 7 g/month; black-market leakage below 5 %.
  • SCRIPT (Bern): first 12-month cohort strongly prefers labelled THC/CBD flowers.
  • Pricing: 8–12 CHF/g across pilots — deliberately anchored to the black-market to measure substitution.

2026–2029 roadmap

The pilots supply the evidence base for a future Swiss cannabis act.

2026Weed Care final report; 3-year evaluation of SCRIPT and Züri Can.
2027Draft cannabis act consultation by the Federal Department of Home Affairs / FOPH.
2028Parliamentary debate; optional referendum possible.
2029Earliest realistic horizon for a Swiss cannabis act with regulated retail.

FAQ

Q1.How many cannabis pilot projects are there in Switzerland?

Six approved trials under Art. 8b NarcA: Züri Can (ZH), Weed Care (BS), SCRIPT (BE), Cann-L (VD), Grashaus Projects (SO/BE/LU) and the Geneva study (GE).

Q2.Is participation legal?

Yes — only for enrolled participants under the study protocol. Outside the study, possession above 10 g remains punishable.

Q3.Can I join Züri Can if I live in Winterthur?

No — Züri Can is restricted to registered residents of the City of Zurich.

Q4.What happens after the study ends?

The data feeds Swiss cannabis legislation; dispensing stops without a new legal framework.

Q5.What if there's no pilot in my region?

CBD products (<1 % THC) remain legal; clubs such as CannabisClub provide a community framework.

Q6.Are the products organic and traceable?

Yes — Swiss organic or IP-Suisse cultivation, lot numbers, certificates of analysis (THC/CBD/pesticides/heavy metals) and full traceability.

No pilot in your canton?

23 of 26 cantons have no dedicated pilot. CannabisClub offers a legal, community-based access route to lab-tested CBD.
