THCA — cannabinoid profile
THCA (Δ9-THCA-A) is a cannabinoid that occurs naturally in cannabis or is derived from its precursors. Molecular formula C₂₂H₃₀O₄, molar mass 358.5 g/mol. Among the 100+ identified cannabinoids, THCA belongs to the non-psychoactive group. This page consolidates current knowledge on chemistry, occurrence in cannabis, receptor action and Swiss legal status — for information only.

Chemistry
Chemically, THCA is a terpenophenol (meroterpenoid). THCA is the acid and storage form of THC in the living plant; formed from CBGA via THCA synthase. Boiling point ~105 °C. It is lipophilic, sensitive to heat and light, and slowly oxidises in air. Analytically it is quantified by HPLC (acid form) and GC-MS (neutral form after decarboxylation) and appears on every modern Swiss batch COA.
Occurrence in cannabis
In cannabis, THCA is produced in the trichomes of the female flower. Typical concentrations: in frischer, un-decarboxylierter Blüte dominant statt THC. Content depends on genetics, light spectrum, harvest timing and storage. Specific strains are linked dynamically below from our strain database.
Swiss legal status
In Switzerland, THCA is treated legally like THC because it converts to THC on heating — products ≥ 1 % total THC (including THCA after decarboxylation) fall under the Narcotics Act. Swiss legal note: cannabis with ≥ 1 % THC is a narcotic under the Narcotics Act. CBD products below 1 % THC are legal. Effect descriptions are informational and are not therapeutic claims.
