Chemistry
Chemically, CBN is a terpenophenol (meroterpenoid). CBN is not a direct biosynthesis product but forms via THC oxidation (time, light, oxygen). Boiling point ~185 °C. It is lipophilic, sensitive to heat and light, and slowly oxidises in air. Analytically it is quantified by HPLC (acid form) and GC-MS (neutral form after decarboxylation) and appears on every modern Swiss batch COA.
Occurrence in cannabis
