CBDA — cannabinoid profile

CBDA (Cannabidiolic Acid) is a cannabinoid that occurs naturally in cannabis or is derived from its precursors. Molecular formula C₂₂H₃₀O₄, molar mass 358.5 g/mol. Among the 100+ identified cannabinoids, CBDA belongs to the non-psychoactive group. This page consolidates current knowledge on chemistry, occurrence in cannabis, receptor action and Swiss legal status — for information only.

Chemistry

Chemically, CBDA is a terpenophenol (meroterpenoid). CBDA is the acid form of CBD and is built directly from CBGA via CBDA synthase. Boiling point ~120 °C. It is lipophilic, sensitive to heat and light, and slowly oxidises in air. Analytically it is quantified by HPLC (acid form) and GC-MS (neutral form after decarboxylation) and appears on every modern Swiss batch COA.

Occurrence in cannabis

In cannabis, CBDA is produced in the trichomes of the female flower. Typical concentrations: dominant in ungetrockneter/frischer CBD-Blüte statt CBD. Content depends on genetics, light spectrum, harvest timing and storage. Specific strains are linked dynamically below from our strain database.

Swiss legal status

CBDA is not specifically regulated in Switzerland and is contained in many full-spectrum CBD oils. Swiss legal note: cannabis with ≥ 1 % THC is a narcotic under the Narcotics Act. CBD products below 1 % THC are legal. Effect descriptions are informational and are not therapeutic claims.
