Pinene — the cannabis terpene in depth

Pinene is a monoterpene with molecular formula C₁₀H₁₆ and a boiling point of 156 °C. In cannabis, typical levels are 0.05–1.2 % dry weight. Outside the plant it is found in pine needles, rosemary, sage, eucalyptus, basil. Within the cannabis aroma landscape, Pinene is an important contributor, dominant in chemovars such as Jack Herer, Blue Dream, Chemdawg, Haze. It shapes overall character via the entourage effect.

Pinene — the cannabis terpene in depth at CannabisClub.ch — Switzerland's private nationwide cannabis social club. We pool demand across all 26 cantons, source directly from licensed Swiss indoor producers and pass the savings on as member pricing: CBD flower from roughly CHF 1.00–2.50/g instead of CHF 5–10/g at retail.

Today we sell legal CBD products only, below 1 % THC under the Narcotics Act. The legal picture differs by canton: fine practice, tolerance and pilot programmes such as Zurich's «Züri Can», Bern's SCRIPT or Basel's «Weed Care» are at different stages.

Membership is free and has no waitlist — any adult in Switzerland can register directly, no invite link required. New members receive 2g of premium Swiss indoor CBD flower for free.

Orders happen inside the member area from curated drops: small batches, each with a lab report (cannabinoid profile, pesticide and heavy-metal screening). Shipping is Switzerland-wide in neutral packaging via A-Post Priority, usually within 24–48 hours of payment. Minimum age 18, age verification at signup.

Once regulated THC sales begin, existing members are already verified and eligible from day 1 — which is exactly why joining now pays off while the Cannabis Products Act (CanPG) moves through parliament.

pine, needles, fresh, herbal — Pinene is a monoterpene that defines its own chemovar signature.

Aroma

Profile: pine, needles, fresh, herbal. Perceivable from ~0.3 % dry weight. With limonene: citrus-fresh; with myrcene: earthy-spicy.

Occurrence

In cannabis, Pinene is produced in the trichomes of the flower. It is quantified by GC-MS and appears on modern COAs. Strains rich in Pinene include Jack Herer, Blue Dream, Chemdawg, Haze. It usually co-occurs with myrcene and caryophyllene — the exact ratios determine the sensorial nuance.

Effect

Preclinically associated with alertness, bronchodilator and anti-inflammatory effects. Evidence: Salehi et al. 2019 (Biomolecules). Legal note: in Switzerland, cannabis with ≥ 1 % THC is a narcotic. CBD flowers below 1 % THC are legal; medical cannabis requires authorisation. Effect descriptions are not therapeutic claims.
