Chemistry

Chemically, CBD is a terpenophenol (meroterpenoid). CBD arises from CBGA converted to CBDA by CBDA synthase, then decarboxylated to CBD. Boiling point ~180 °C. It is lipophilic, sensitive to heat and light, and slowly oxidises in air. Analytically it is quantified by HPLC (acid form) and GC-MS (neutral form after decarboxylation) and appears on every modern Swiss batch COA.

Occurrence in cannabis

In cannabis, CBD is produced in the trichomes of the female flower. Typical concentrations: 3–20 % in CBD-Sorten, < 1 % in THC-dominanten Sorten. Content depends on genetics, light spectrum, harvest timing and storage. Specific strains are linked dynamically below from our strain database.

Swiss legal status

CBD is not listed as a narcotic in Switzerland. CBD flower < 1 % THC is legal; permitted as cosmetic or aromatic product — not as a food supplement without approval.
