Cannabinoids — the active family of the hemp plant
Over 100 cannabinoids have been identified in cannabis. The ones that really matter, how they interact — and which ones you'll find in legal Swiss products.
Cannabinoids are active compounds that bind to the CB1/CB2 receptors of the endocannabinoid system. Best known: THC (psychoactive) and CBD (non-psychoactive). Plus CBG (the 'mother cannabinoid'), CBN (sedating), CBC (anti-inflammatory) and the acidic precursors CBDA/THCA. Together they create the entourage effect.
What cannabinoids are
Molecules that interact with the mammalian endocannabinoid system (ECS). Three groups: phytocannabinoids (plant), endocannabinoids (body, e.g. anandamide), synthetic (lab).
Produced in trichomes — the resin glands of the flower. Over 100 known, around 10 commercially and scientifically relevant.
The main cannabinoids
CBD: non-psychoactive, relaxing, main active in legal Swiss products.
THC: psychoactive, in Switzerland legal only under 1%.
The entourage effect
Cannabinoids work better together with terpenes than in isolation. A full-spectrum 5% CBD is often more noticeable than a 5% isolate. That's why we work with full-spectrum products and indoor genetics with rich profiles.
Cannabinoids in Swiss products
All cannabinoids are legal as long as the final product stays under 1% THC. CBD flowers, hash, oil, vapes and CBG specialities are in our range. THC-heavy products above 1% fall under narcotics law — only accessible via cannabis prescription.
FAQ
How many cannabinoids exist?
Over 100 identified; about 10 in meaningfully relevant amounts.
Which are psychoactive?
Mainly THC; CBD, CBG, CBC, CBDA are not.
Full-spectrum vs isolate?
Full-spectrum = natural cannabinoid + terpene profile (entourage). Isolate = single purified cannabinoid (e.g. 99% CBD).
All legal in Switzerland?
Yes, as long as the final product stays under 1% total THC.
What are 'minor cannabinoids'?
Cannabinoids in smaller amounts: CBG, CBN, CBC, CBDV. Increasingly relevant.
