Methodology: how this tool calculates

The price calculator normalises offers onto a comparable value: price per gram and price per gram of active compound. Only then can pack sizes and potencies be compared fairly.

The calculation step by step

  1. 1. Normalise the base price

Total price divided by grams gives the per-gram price — the only figure comparable across 3 g, 10 g and 25 g packs.

  2. 2. Factor in potency

Per-gram price divided by (percentage ÷ 100) gives the price per gram of pure active compound.

  3. 3. Add secondary costs

Shipping, minimum order value and pack size are spread across the quantity; for small orders shipping dominates the effective price.

  4. 4. Benchmark against the index

The result is compared with our Swiss price index so you can see whether an offer sits above or below market.

Worked example

  • Offer: 10 g for CHF 80, 14% CBD, shipping CHF 7.
  • Per-gram price incl. shipping: (80 + 7) ÷ 10 = CHF 8.70/g.
  • Price per gram of active: 8.70 ÷ 0.14 ≈ CHF 62/g CBD.
  • Comparison: 5 g at CHF 45 with 18% gives CHF 10.40/g or CHF 58/g CBD — the better ratio despite the higher gram price.

Limits of the method

  • Potency figures are vendor declarations; without a lab report a tolerance of several percentage points remains.
  • Quality factors such as drying, curing, terpene retention and freshness do not enter the per-active price.
  • Prices move constantly; the index reflects sampled points, not real time.

Data basis

  • CannabisClub.ch Swiss price index (public CSV/JSON datasets).
  • Collected list prices from Swiss vendors and club conditions.

Frequently asked questions about the tool

Why price per gram of active compound?

Because you buy effect, not plant matter. At 8% versus 18% you need more than twice the quantity for the same result.

Is the cheapest always the best?

No. Very low gram prices often come with low potency, old stock or poor curing.

Is shipping included?

Yes, if you enter it — it is spread across the order quantity, which matters most for small orders.
