Recommendations are based on typical terpene/cannabinoid profiles and are not medical advice.

Methodology: how this tool calculates

The strain finder is not a random generator but a weighted match across three axes: desired effect, terpene profile and experience level. Every strain in our database carries values on these axes; the tool turns them into a score and ranks accordingly.

The calculation step by step

  1. 1. Effect axis

Your selection (relaxing, clear-headed, physical) is matched against each strain's recorded effect profile. A full match weighs most, adjacent profiles count partially.

  2. 2. Terpene axis

Myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene or pinene shape aroma and subjective effect. If the dominant terpene fits your direction, the score rises.

  3. 3. Experience axis

For beginners, high-THC strains are penalised and CBD-forward chemovars favoured. For experienced users this dampening is dropped.

  4. 4. Ranking

The three sub-scores are summed and strains sorted descending, with chemovar type shown so the recommendation stays verifiable.

Worked example

  • Input: effect "relaxing", terpene "myrcene", experience "beginner".
  • Strain A (indica-dominant, myrcene-led, CBD-forward): effect 3 + terpene 2 + beginner bonus 1 = score 6.
  • Strain B (sativa-dominant, limonene, high THC): effect 0 + terpene 0 − beginner penalty 1 = score −1.
  • Result: strain A ranks first, strain B drops out of the top matches.

Limits of the method

  • Effect is individual: tolerance, set and setting shift experience more than any strain label.
  • Terpene data comes from strain descriptions and lab profiles and varies by batch and cultivation.
  • The tool is no substitute for medical advice and makes no therapeutic efficacy claim.

Data basis

  • CannabisClub.ch chemovar reference (public CSV/JSON in the Data Center).
  • Published terpene and cannabinoid analyses from Swiss laboratories.

Frequently asked questions about the tool

Why do I get several strains for the same input?

Because multiple chemovars can reach the same score. We then show all equivalent matches instead of arbitrarily picking one.

Does the finder consider THC content?

Yes, indirectly via experience level: high-THC strains are penalised for beginners.

Are the results legally available in Switzerland?

We recommend chemovar profiles, not sources. In Switzerland only products below 1.0% THC are freely sold.
