Press your own rosin — the Swiss guide

Rosin is the cleanest concentrate you can make at home: cannabis flower or hash between two heated plates, no solvents. A single tool (the rosin press), 30 seconds per load — final product up to 85 % cannabinoids.

TL;DR: Rosin = press flower/hash between two heated plates. 80–100 °C, 40–100 bar, 30–90 s. Flower-rosin yield 15–25 %, hash-rosin up to 60 %. Solventless, terpene-rich, dabbable. Legal in Switzerland from <1 % THC flower for personal use.

Why rosin is special

Rosin was popularized in 2015 by California growers. It is literally the resin you can squeeze out of the flower with heat and pressure — no butane, no ethanol, no CO₂. For the consumer that means: guaranteed solvent-free.

Modern rosin from CBD strains lands at 60–85 % cannabinoids and preserves 70–90 % of the original terpene profile — far more than classic hash.

Gear

Rosin press: manual (Nugsmasher, Longs Peak) for CHF 200–800, or pneumatic from CHF 1'500. For hobby use the manual is plenty.

Filter bags: 25–37 micron for hash-rosin, 90–160 micron for flower-rosin.

Step by step

1. Prep: condition flower to 55–62 % RH (Boveda pack). Too dry pulls chlorophyll; too wet causes bubbles.

2. Fill the bag: 3–7 g per bag, evenly distributed. Wrap in parchment.

Yield & quality check

Flower-rosin: 15–25 % yield depending on trichome density. 5 g flower → ~1 g rosin.

Hash-rosin (from bubble hash): 40–60 %. 5 g bubble hash → ~2.5 g premium rosin.

FAQ

How much rosin from 10 g flower?

On decent CBD flower, 1.5–2.5 g rosin (15–25 %). From bubble hash, up to 6 g.

What temperature is best?

80–90 °C to max out terpenes, 95–105 °C to max yield. Consumer sweet spot: 90 °C.

Can I make rosin without a press?

Yes, with a hair straightener — much less control and yield. Fine for testing; get a press for regular production.

Is home-pressed rosin legal?

From certified Swiss <1 % THC flower for personal use, yes. The 1 % ceiling must hold in the final product.
