Medical Cannabis for Parkinson's Disease — Switzerland 2026

In Parkinson's, cannabinoids help mostly on non-motor symptoms — sleep, pain, anxiety — and L-Dopa-induced dyskinesias. Much cheaper for members.

TL;DR: In Parkinson's, cannabis acts primarily on non-motor symptoms (sleep, pain, anxiety) and L-Dopa-induced dyskinesias (Sieradzan 2001). CBD (Chagas 2014) improves quality of life. Core motor symptoms (tremor, bradykinesia) respond little. Prescription: movement-disorder neurologist. CannabisClub members: 50 CHF flat instead of 190.

What the studies show

Sieradzan 2001 (RCT): nabilone significantly reduces L-Dopa-induced dyskinesias.

Chagas 2014 (RCT): CBD 75–300 mg improves quality of life (PDQ-39) but not motor UPDRS.

Balash 2017 (cohort, n=47): inhaled cannabis subjectively reduces pain, sleep disturbance and tremor in ~85 %.

Core motor symptoms respond inconsistently — cannabis complements, doesn't replace L-Dopa or MAO-B inhibitors.

Preparations & dosing

CBD oil 10 % 25–100 mg/day for anxiety, sleep issues, REM behaviour disorder.

Dronabinol 2.5–5 mg at night for pain or dyskinesias.

Nabilone 0.5–1 mg at night specifically for dyskinesia control.

Caution: orthostatic hypotension on levodopa — THC can worsen it. Slow titration.

FAQ

Does cannabis reduce my tremor?

Inconsistent. Many patients report subjective improvement; objective UPDRS moves little. Non-motor symptoms have better data.

What does membership save?

Consultation 50 CHF instead of 190 CHF. Quarterly follow-up: 560 CHF/year. Registration free.

Does insurance cover cannabis for Parkinson's?

Rarely — mainly with pain or dyskinesia component, Art. 71a HIO agreement. Hard for quality-of-life gains alone.
