Cannabis Doctor in Switzerland — how to find a prescribing practice

Since August 2022, any licensed Swiss doctor may prescribe cannabis on a regular narcotics prescription. In practice, only a few do. Here's where to get a serious and affordable prescription.

Legally, every Swiss doctor may prescribe — in practice mostly trained GPs, pain specialists, neurologists and dedicated cannabis clinics. External first consultation: ~190 CHF for 15 min. CannabisClub members with a Swiss address pay a 50 CHF flat fee for consultation + prescription.

Which doctors may prescribe?

Since 1 August 2022, every licensed Swiss doctor may prescribe cannabis on an official narcotics prescription — no FOPH exemption needed.

In practice, prescribers are mostly cannabis-trained GPs, pain and palliative specialists, neurologists (MS, epilepsy), oncologists and dedicated cannabis clinics in Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lausanne and Geneva.

How to find the right practice

1. Ask your GP first — he knows your file and can at least refer you.

2. Call a specialist cannabis clinic directly (Zurich, Bern, Basel, Lausanne, Geneva) — they accept patients from all over Switzerland by video.

What happens in the first consultation

15–30 minutes, almost always by video. The doctor reviews history, current medications, prior therapies, addiction and psychiatric background.

Bring: existing diagnosis (report, certificate), list of prior treatments, current medications, brief description of symptoms and desired effect.

Costs — open market vs club

Open market: first consultation ~190 CHF (15 min video, prescription included). Follow-up 100–150 CHF. Renewal 40–80 CHF.

CannabisClub members (Swiss residents): first consultation and prescription at 50 CHF flat. Renewals mostly digital where medically justified.
