Cannabis for Multiple Sclerosis — Switzerland 2026
MS spasticity is one of the few cannabis indications with clear licensing and reimbursement (Sativex®). Here's the effect, preparations and how to get the prescription.
MS spasticity is the only clearly licensed cannabis indication in Switzerland — Sativex® (nabiximols) is reimbursed. Alternatives or add-ons: dronabinol drops, Bediol flower or magistral oils for spasticity, neuropathic pain, bladder and sleep. Prescription: neurologist or cannabis-trained doctor. Sativex® ~500 CHF/bottle (reimbursable), alternatives 200–800 CHF/month.
Which MS symptoms does cannabis help?
Spasticity (stiffness, cramps): strongest evidence, Sativex® licensed precisely for this — significant efficacy in clinical trials.
Neuropathic pain from MS lesions: moderate evidence, cannabis often effective when standard therapy fails.
Preparations — Sativex and alternatives
Sativex® oromucosal spray (2.7 mg THC + 2.5 mg CBD per spray): licensed for MS spasticity, reimbursed on indication. Typical dose: 4–12 sprays/day.
Dronabinol drops: cheaper alternative, 2.5–10 mg THC 2–4×/day, precise dosing.
Prescription in Switzerland
Ideal: via your treating neurologist (who runs the MS diagnosis). If refused: cannabis clinic or CannabisClub referral (50 CHF flat).
For Sativex® coverage: written request from the neurologist with diagnosis, documented spasticity severity and failure of baclofen/tizanidine. Approval by the insurer's medical officer.
