Medical Cannabis Wholesale – for licensed partners

We are building the medical cannabis wholesale segment now — transparently, in compliance and exclusively for operators with a valid narcotics permit.

TL;DR

  • Audience: pharmacies, clinics, licensed distributors.
  • Framework: Swiss NarcA, FOPH authorisation, simplified since 2022.
  • Current status: waiting list + onboarding preparation.
  • Assortment plan: flowers (calibrated THC genetics), extracts, GMP compliance.

Legal framework in Switzerland

Since 1 August 2022, medical cannabis is no longer under the exceptional narcotics permit regime: doctors can prescribe cannabis medicines without special FOPH authorisation.

Wholesale and import remain permit-based (Swissmedic, FOPH). Supply is only possible to pharmacies, clinics and operators with a valid narcotics permit.

What we are preparing today

CannabisClub is actively setting up the prerequisites: analytical partners, GMP-ready production lines, compliance processes and onboarding for licensed distributors.

All inquiries currently run via a closed waiting list. As soon as regular supply becomes possible, waiting-list partners receive prioritised access to first batches and pricing.

  • Calibrated THC genetics (dose consistency)
  • Extracts and full-spectrum oils tailored to medical need
  • Full traceability from genetics to batch
  • Compliance with Swiss and international standards

Why join the partner list now

The Swiss medical cannabis market is growing at double-digit rates, with prescriptions and insurance reimbursements rising. Licensed operators preparing their onboarding today gain the structural advantage in accessing Swiss genetics tomorrow.

Authorisation landscape: who may source medical cannabis

Since August 2022 the trade ban on medical cannabis in Switzerland has been lifted: doctors can prescribe without an FOPH exceptional licence. Trade itself remains tightly regulated. Cultivation, manufacturing, import, export and wholesale require a Swissmedic establishment licence; controlled substances are additionally subject to narcotics control with reporting duties and complete documentation.

For wholesale partners this means we supply this segment exclusively to businesses holding a valid licence. Verification happens before the first delivery, based on the licence number and the responsible person for medicinal product safety. Without that evidence no supply is possible — not even samples.

  • Swissmedic establishment licence for trade/import
  • Named responsible person (technical lead)
  • GDP-compliant storage and transport chain
  • Batch documentation and recall process in place

Quality requirements: GACP, GMP and reimbursement

Medical cannabis is produced to different standards than over-the-counter CBD: cultivation under GACP, processing and release under GMP; every batch needs documented release with active content, microbiological purity and stability data. These requirements explain most of the price gap to CBD flower.

On the demand side, reimbursement is the bottleneck. Basic insurance coverage is only possible case by case under the individual reimbursement rules (Art. 71a–71d KVV/OAMal) and requires prior cost approval. Anyone planning medical B2B should therefore budget conservatively: the market grows through indications and cost approvals, not through volume advertising.

FAQ

Can pharmacies/clinics already order today?

Regular orders are only possible once the operational wholesale channel is opened. Until then, licensed operators can join the waiting list and receive prioritised access to first batches.

Which licences are required?

Valid narcotics permit (canton / FOPH), pharmacy or clinic operating permit, possibly Swissmedic wholesaler permit — depending on the role in the supply chain.

How is pricing set?

As across the Partner Program: structurally best available price per batch — no tiered list, visible in the Partner area.

Do you sell to private individuals?

No. Medical cannabis is supplied only to licensed operators. For patients, access is via pharmacy on medical prescription.

Is there GMP certification?

GMP compliance is part of the preparation roadmap. Details will be shared with the first regularly supplied partners.

Do you supply pharmacies directly?

Only within the applicable licences and through authorised trade partners. Licence verification is a precondition for any delivery in this segment.

Is medical cannabis covered by health insurance?

Not generally. Reimbursement is possible case by case under Art. 71a–71d KVV and requires prior cost approval from the insurer.
