Medical cannabis for licensed distributors
Legal framework and waiting list for licensed distributors and dispensing points.
TL;DR
- Target: pharmacies, clinics, wholesalers with a narcotics permit.
- Legal basis: NarcA, Swissmedic, cantonal permit.
- Currently: waiting list + priority access to first batches.
Who can supply today
In Switzerland only pharmacies may dispense medical cannabis on prescription. Wholesale requires additional permits (Swissmedic wholesaler, possibly import).
How we prepare
We build the processes and analytical chain so that licensed partners start without friction — batch release, traceability, returns.
Waiting list
Closed list with priority access at opening. We prefer partners with clear usage (pharmacy, clinic, specialised distributor).
Checks before the first delivery to licensed operators
Before a single batch leaves the warehouse we verify three things: the valid Swissmedic establishment licence, the responsible technical person, and the suitability of the storage and transport chain. Only then do we discuss cultivar, active content and dosage form. That order is non-negotiable — in the licensed segment, delivering to an unlicensed recipient is a narcotics-law breach, not an administrative slip.
For businesses whose licence application is pending: we can prepare the process (cultivar selection, documentation requirements, batch planning) but only deliver once the licence is granted.
- Swissmedic establishment licence (copy and number)
- Responsible technical person with contact details
- GDP-compliant storage, documented temperature chain
- Recall and batch documentation process
Cultivar selection and documentation in a medical context
Unlike the recreational segment, medical supply is not about looks but reproducibility: consistent active content across batches, documented microbiological purity and stability data. Doctors and pharmacies need dosing reliability — a batch deviating by several percentage points in THC creates queries and therapeutic uncertainty.
Documentation depth is therefore decisive: batch certificate, analytical method, evidence of irradiation or alternative microbial reduction, storage instructions and expiry date. These documents are part of the delivery, not something supplied "on request".
Import, quotas and reporting duties
Importing medical cannabis happens within international quotas: Switzerland reports demand estimates to the International Narcotics Control Board, and each import requires its own permit. For businesses that means planning lead time — import is a procedure with deadlines, not an order form.
FAQ
What if the legal framework opens further?
Waiting-list partners are first to access new categories (further genetics, extracts).
Can I receive samples?
Not currently. Samples will be released as regular supply starts.
Can medical practices order directly?
No. In the licensed segment we supply only operators holding a valid establishment licence; dispensing to patients runs through pharmacies.
How quickly can a first delivery happen?
After complete licence verification and cultivar alignment, typically within a few weeks, depending on batch availability.
How long does an import permit take?
It is applied for per shipment and needs lead time; several weeks between application and readiness to deliver is realistic, depending on how complete the documentation is.
