Why the certificate is the only hard proof
Looks, smell and price can all be staged. A lab value cannot. Trichomes, nose and structure tell you about craft — see spotting real Cali quality — but they say nothing about potency, residual moisture or mould. A COA is a snapshot of one specific batch: a 2024 certificate proves nothing about the flower in today's jar, even if the strain name is identical.

Reading the cannabinoid panel
A report normally lists THC (delta-9) and THCA (the acidic precursor) separately, plus CBD, CBDA, CBG, CBN and CBC. In dried, unheated flower the active compound sits almost entirely in acid form, which is why you see values like "THC 0.3%, THCA 22%".
Report: THC 0.42%, THCA 0.61%
Total THC = 0.42 + (0.61 × 0.877) = 0.96%
Just under the Swiss limit — and proof that the "THC" line alone tells you nothing.

Also watch the LOQ (limit of quantification): "< LOQ" means "below this lab's measurable threshold", not zero. And with oils, percent is not mg: 10% CBD in a 10 ml bottle is roughly 1000 mg.
Switzerland's 1% limit
In Switzerland a cannabis product counts as a narcotic once total THC reaches 1.0%. Below that it can be sold as a CBD product. Practical consequences:
- The limit applies to total THC, not delta-9 alone.
- Values like 0.95% are legal but tight — measurement uncertainty between labs is real.
- Serious reports state their uncertainty; treat it as a safety margin.
- Extracts and hash are concentrated by nature and read on a different scale.

Terpenes, moisture and freshness

- Moisture content: around 10–12% is the target. Much more means mould risk.
- Water activity (aw): 0.55–0.65 is the industry corridor.

- "Total THC" without separate THC and THCA values — nothing to verify.
- Round marketing numbers ("THC 30%") with no method and no LOQ.
- Cannabinoids only, nothing on pesticides or microbiology.
- One single report used for many different strains.
