Legal Cannabis in Switzerland 2026: Club, Pharmacy or Pilot? | CannabisClub.ch

Pharmacy, pilot project, CBD retail or club: every legal route to cannabis in Switzerland compared — access, prices, caps and which one fits you.

Anyone who wants to obtain cannabis legally in Switzerland in 2026 has exactly three official routes — plus a fourth that most comparisons skip. This article puts pharmacy (medical), pilot project, CBD retail and the association model of CannabisClub.ch side by side: who qualifies, what it costs, how long access takes — and which route fits which need.

Route 1: medical cannabis from a pharmacy

Since 1 August 2022, the ban on medical cannabis has been lifted; doctors can prescribe THC preparations directly without a federal exemption. You still need a diagnosis (chronic pain, MS spasticity, chemotherapy-induced nausea, cachexia), a prescription and usually a cost-coverage approval — reimbursement is still not automatic. Expect CHF 15–25 per gram of flower, or several hundred francs a month for extracts.

Route 2: joining a pilot project

The pilot trials under Art. 8a of the Narcotics Act (Basel, Zurich, Bern, Lausanne, Geneva and more in preparation) are the only way to obtain THC legally without a medical indication. The price of CHF 8–13/g is attractive; the conditions less so: residency in the project municipality, proof of existing consumption, recurring surveys, a fixed monthly cap and exclusion criteria (pregnancy, severe psychiatric conditions).

Route 3: the open CBD market

Cannabis with less than 1 % THC is not a narcotic in Switzerland and is freely available to adults. Quality and price vary wildly — from imported outdoor material at CHF 4/g to Swiss indoor flower at CHF 12/g in shops. Buying here almost always means paying a retail margin that has little to do with actual production quality.

Which route fits which need?

What to expect legally in 2026

Parliament is working on a cannabis act (regulation instead of prohibition). Until such a law is in force, legal THC access stays limited to medicine and pilot trials. That is exactly why preparation matters: licensed producers with their own genetics and verified indoor production — such as our facility in Sarnen — can supply on day one, while pure resellers still have to go shopping.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy THC legally in Switzerland without a prescription?
Only as a participant in an approved pilot project in Basel, Zurich, Bern, Lausanne or Geneva. Outside of those, THC above 1 % remains illegal.
What does pharmacy cannabis cost?
Medical THC flower realistically costs CHF 15–25 per gram in Swiss pharmacies, and health insurance does not cover it automatically.
What is the difference between a club and a pilot project?
A pilot project is a time-limited scientific study with residency requirements, questionnaires and monthly caps. The club is an association giving members wholesale prices on legal products — currently CBD below 1 % THC.
Is CannabisClub.ch a THC producer?
Yes. We are a licensed THC producer with our own indoor production in Sarnen (OW). Members currently receive only CBD products below 1 % THC; THC follows as soon as it is legally permitted.
What does membership cost?
Joining is free. New members receive 2g of the best Swiss indoor CBD flowers.
