What is a vaporiser?
A vaporiser heats cannabis flower (or concentrate) to a temperature below the combustion point (~230 °C). Cannabinoids and terpenes evaporate as an aromatised vapour — without burning plant material. Result: cleaner experience, drastically fewer contaminants, more control over effect and aroma.
Vaporising vs. smoking — the evidence
Studies (Earleywine & Barnwell 2007, Abrams et al. 2007, Van Dam & Earleywine 2010) show vaporising significantly reduces respiratory symptoms because no pyrolysis products (CO, PAH, tar) form. For medical patients the vaporiser is therefore the preferred application form for chronic use.
Legal status Switzerland
Vaporisers are legal. Regulation targets what you put in, not the device. Allowed: CBD flower ≤1 % THC (see CBD flower Switzerland), medical cannabis with prescription, or pilot-project supply. THC-containing cartridges from abroad (Delta-8, HHC) are illegal — see HHC guide.
Convection vs. conduction
- Conduction: flower touches a heated surface. Cheaper, fast start, but uneven — edges may burn.
- Convection: hot air flows through flower. Precise temperature control, clean aroma, more efficient extraction. Gold standard on medical devices (Volcano, Mighty+).
- Hybrid: many modern portables combine both.

Every cannabinoid and terpene has its own boiling point. Choosing the temperature consciously steers the effect — more focus, more relaxation, more sleep support.

- THC — 157 °C (subtle), 175–210 °C (usual)
- CBD — 160–180 °C (fine), 180–200 °C (stronger)
- CBN — 185 °C — for sleep support
- CBG — 220 °C — rising at session end
