Swiss CBD flower comparison: which quality is actually worth it?

Swiss CBD flower ranges from CHF 2 to CHF 10 per gram — and the difference is not always where the price suggests. This comparison shows what separates indoor, greenhouse, outdoor and small buds, which quality markers are genuinely measurable, and when the pricier flower is actually cheaper per session.

At a glance

  • Indoor delivers 12–22% CBD, dense buds and the most intense terpene profile — CHF 6–10 per gram at member prices.
  • Greenhouse is the everyday value winner: 10–16% CBD from CHF 4.
  • Outdoor from CHF 2.50 makes sense for vaporising and bulk, but varies strongly by season.
  • Small buds come from the same plant and cost far less at virtually the same lab values.
  • The only objective quality proof is the batch lab report: CBD, THC below 1%, pesticides, heavy metals, microbiology.

Indoor, greenhouse, outdoor: the direct comparison

Cultivation method determines three things: how much control the grower has over light, climate and nutrients, how dense and resinous the flower becomes, and how consistent the result stays across batches. Indoor is fully controlled and therefore expensive — Swiss energy and labour costs sit directly in the gram price. Greenhouse combines sunlight with supplemental lighting and often lands surprisingly close to indoor. Outdoor is cheapest but weather-dependent: the same genetics can smell entirely different two years apart.

Important: cultivation method and legality are separate topics. Every flower sold legally in Switzerland must stay below 1% THC, indoor or outdoor.

Six quality markers you can check yourself

Terms like "premium" or "cali quality" are unprotected and prove nothing on their own. These six markers are verifiable — five of them the moment you open the packaging.

  • Batch lab report — CBD and THC values, pesticides, heavy metals, microbiology. Without a batch number a report is worthless.
  • Trichomes and resin — Visibly glistening trichomes signal intact compounds. Dull, dusty buds were usually stored too warm or too long.
  • Aroma — A clean, strain-typical aroma indicates careful drying and curing. Hay or ammonia smell is a hard no.
  • Structure and moisture — The bud should spring back, neither crumble nor stick. Around 58–62% relative humidity is ideal.
  • Trim quality — Well-manicured buds without large leaf remnants mean more active compound per gram.
  • Packaging — Opaque and airtight. Clear bags on a shelf are the number-one cause of terpene loss.

Price per gram is not price per session

Comparing gram prices alone is a maths error. What matters is active compound per franc. An indoor flower at 18% CBD for CHF 8 delivers 180 mg CBD per gram, roughly 4.4 centimes per milligram. An outdoor at 8% for CHF 3 delivers 80 mg, or 3.8 centimes — cheaper on paper, but you need more material per session.

With a vaporiser, where extraction efficiency is high, the more potent flower often wins because you use less. For tea, extraction or balms, trim remains the most economical base. For occasional use, a small amount of indoor usually beats 10 g of mid-grade that loses its aroma before you finish it.

Checklist before you order

These five checks take two minutes and prevent the most common mistakes in the Swiss CBD market.

  • Is the THC value declared? — Below 1% THC is mandatory in Switzerland. A missing figure means incomplete declaration.
  • Is the report batch-specific and current? — A 2023 report for a 2026 flower proves nothing.
  • Does the quantity match your use? — Flower noticeably loses terpenes after 6–9 months, even when stored correctly.
  • Does the terpene profile match your goal? — Myrcene and linalool lean evening, limonene and pinene lean daytime.
  • Is the price per milligram right? — Gram price divided by CBD content — compare only after that.

Frequently asked

Is indoor CBD flower really better than outdoor?
It is usually more potent, denser and more aromatic because light, climate and harvest are controlled. For extraction, tea or bulk use, outdoor remains the more economical choice.
How much CBD is in Swiss flower?
Legal Swiss flower typically ranges from 6% to 22% CBD and always stays below 1% THC. The batch lab report is authoritative.
Are small buds worth it?
Yes, if looks do not matter. They are smaller buds from the same plant with virtually the same cannabinoid and terpene profile at a much lower gram price.
How do I spot poor CBD flower?
Hay or ammonia smell, crumbly or damp texture, lots of leaf, no batch-specific lab report and clear plastic packaging.
How should I store CBD flower?
Light-proof, airtight, cool and at roughly 58–62% relative humidity. Heat and light degrade terpenes first.
What does 1 gram of CBD flower cost in Switzerland?
CHF 2.50–10 at member prices depending on cultivation, and typically CHF 8–15 per gram in retail shops.
