Delta-8-THC — cannabinoid profile

Delta-8-THC (Δ8-THC) is a cannabinoid that occurs naturally in cannabis or is derived from its precursors. Molecular formula C₂₁H₃₀O₂, molar mass 314.5 g/mol. Among the 100+ identified cannabinoids, Delta-8-THC belongs to the psychoactive group. This page consolidates current knowledge on chemistry, occurrence in cannabis, receptor action and Swiss legal status — for information only.

Chemistry

Chemically, Delta-8-THC is a terpenophenol (meroterpenoid). Delta-8 forms naturally in small amounts via isomerisation of Δ9-THC. Commercially it is mostly synthesised from CBD. Boiling point ~175 °C. It is lipophilic, sensitive to heat and light, and slowly oxidises in air. Analytically it is quantified by HPLC (acid form) and GC-MS (neutral form after decarboxylation) and appears on every modern Swiss batch COA.

Occurrence in cannabis

In cannabis, Delta-8-THC is produced in the trichomes of the female flower. Typical concentrations: in natürlicher Blüte in Spuren (< 0.1 %). Content depends on genetics, light spectrum, harvest timing and storage. Specific strains are linked dynamically below from our strain database.

Swiss legal status

Delta-8-THC is listed under the Swiss Narcotics Act as a psychoactive THC isomer. Trade and possession without authorisation are punishable. Swiss legal note: cannabis with ≥ 1 % THC is a narcotic under the Narcotics Act. CBD products below 1 % THC are legal. Effect descriptions are informational and are not therapeutic claims.
