H4CBD — hydrogenated cannabidiol in detail

H4CBD is sold as 'stronger CBD' with mild psychoactive effects. What's really behind it, and is it legal in Switzerland?

H4CBD is fully hydrogenated CBD (4 hydrogens added). ~100× the CB1 affinity of CBD (still weak vs THC). User reports: mildly sedative, minimally psychoactive. Swiss status: not listed as a narcotic, but without food/supplement authorisation, sales are not legally covered.

What is H4CBD chemically?

H4CBD is the fully hydrogenated form of CBD. Four hydrogen atoms are added to CBD's two double bonds. The molecule becomes more stable and more lipophilic.

Commercially made from CBD isolate with hydrogen and palladium catalyst. Final quality depends on purification.

Effects — studies and reports

In-vitro studies show much higher CB1 affinity than CBD. In practice: mild relaxation, minimal 'heady' effect, not comparable to THC.

No human studies. All claims rest on receptor data and user reports.

Swiss legal status

H4CBD is not on the narcotics list. Not illegal per se, but selling as food, cosmetic or supplement requires authorisation that does not exist.

As a result, imports and sales are not covered by food law. Swissmedic is monitoring.
