Can you grow CBD plants in Switzerland?
Yes, under conditions. Varieties with less than 1 % THC may be cultivated if the cultivation is notified to cantonal and/or federal authorities. Commercial sale requires additional obligations (FOPH, FSVO, customs).
Key facts
- Varieties < 1 % THC: allowed
- Notification obligation
- Keep variety certificates
- Sale: additional permits
Detailed answer
Cannabis with less than 1 % THC falls outside the BetmG — cultivation, trade and consumption are in principle allowed. Cultivation is subject to notification: farmers notify cantonal agricultural services and customs; private individuals may grow small amounts for personal use, keeping variety certificates (proof THC < 1 %). For sale: operating licence, tobacco tax for smoked products, food-law compliance (FSVO). In checks, THC content can be measured — exceedance = seizure and complaint.
