The dataset previously presented as a price index is an illustrative model. It does not contain a documented sample of real offers. Its values should therefore not be cited as current Swiss market prices or official statistics. This page remains available so that existing links still work and readers can understand where the numbers came from. The correction concerns the description of the data; it does not represent a new survey of market prices.

How the numbers are calculated

The model starts in August 2025 with preset ranges: Outdoor CHF 4–7/g, Greenhouse CHF 6–10/g, Indoor CHF 8–16/g, hash CHF 10–20/g and CBD oil CHF 40–70 per 10 ml. These starting values are assumptions. A formula changes both endpoints for the following eleven months. The respective monthly parameters are −0.4%, −0.3%, −0.2%, −0.15% and −0.25%. Each change is calculated against the initial value, rather than compounded from one month to the next.

A midpoint is not a median

For each model month, the central value is the average of the lower and upper endpoints, rounded to one decimal place. A range of CHF 8–16/g therefore gives a midpoint of CHF 12/g. A statistical median would require a sample of individually observed prices. The exported field retains the name median for compatibility, but it represents only this range midpoint. The minimum and maximum are also model boundaries, not the cheapest and most expensive offers actually found in a survey.

What the curves cannot establish

A downward trend is built into the formula. It does not demonstrate oversupply, cheaper available offers, changes in demand or an effect of pilot trials. The series provides no basis for an empirical margin of error or a forecast. Nor can it establish the quality of individual products. Oil is expressed per 10 ml while the other categories are expressed per gram. Comparing these numbers directly without accounting for their different units would be misleading.

What a reliable price comparison needs

An actual survey would need to document the date, supplier, public offer, package size, product category and unit price. Discounts, delivery charges and differences in concentration would need consistent treatment. The method would also need rules for selecting offers, weighting observations and handling missing values. Only then could monthly changes be interpreted meaningfully. A market comparison would need to distinguish medical products, scientific pilot trials and other product categories explicitly.

How to use this information

The display can illustrate how a price series is structured. Any reuse or embedding should retain a visible simulation label. August 2025 to July 2026 describes the model’s time axis, not twelve surveys that actually took place. A future switch to observed data would need to identify the new method, its sources and the start of real collection. Until then, this page cannot reliably answer the question of what cannabis currently costs in Switzerland.
