Cannabis License Revocation — the full path
Anyone caught driving with THC in blood loses their license for months. Reissuing often requires a medical driving assessment — expensive and lengthy.
First offense: 3 months revocation (warning revocation, RTA Art. 16b). Repeat <10 years: 12 months. Chronic or high values: indefinite revocation + safety measures. Reissuing: medical driving assessment, 2,000–5,000 CHF, 3–6 months wait.
When is the license revoked?
From 1.5 µg/L THC in whole blood (SGRM threshold, since 2007): driving inability presumed, revocation mandatory.
Even without driving error: mere blood value exceedance suffices.
Revocation duration per RTA
Medium-severe violation (RTA Art. 16b): min. 1 month. Cannabis first offense usually 3 months.
Severe violation (RTA Art. 16c, high values, accident): min. 3 months, in practice 6–12 months.
Medical driving assessment
On repeat or safety revocation: assessment at IVMed center.
Scope: history, blood/urine analysis, hair test (3-month proof), medical interview.
Reissuing — the way back
Revocation period + application to road traffic office + IVMed report + possibly traffic-psychological retraining.
New driving under cannabis: rapid revocation + criminal consequences.
