When will cannabis be legal in Switzerland?

A draft bill is not yet law. The parliamentary announcement of 8 May 2026 documents an instruction to revise the draft Cannabis Products Act. It does not establish a binding date for general access.

At a glance

  • The official documents reviewed here do not establish a binding launch date. Registering with or joining a club does not create a future statutory entitlement to obtain cannabis. The enacted law, its entry into force and applicable authorisations would determine eligibility.

What the official announcement establishes

On 8 May 2026, the National Council’s Social Security and Health Committee considered responses to the consultation on the Cannabis Products Act. It instructed its subcommittee to revise the proposal. This dated announcement establishes a procedural step, rather than a new legal right to sell cannabis.

This page was reviewed on 3 October 2026. We identify the underlying announcement by its own date rather than describing it as an October decision. A provisional text may change as the process continues.

Current law continues to apply

The reform debate does not authorise general recreational sales of cannabis subject to narcotics legislation. Medical uses and approved scientific pilot trials have separate legal foundations. Neither amounts to nationwide general access.

The THC threshold is not a complete product approval either: a total THC content below 1% does not remove every other rule. Further requirements depend on the product category. The linked overview of current Swiss law brings those questions together.

Which proposals are not guarantees

Published proposals about outlets, eligibility or types of supply should be read as proposals. We do not infer a guaranteed role for a particular club or automatic access for its members. A company’s plans for a future activity do not establish its legal approval.

Registration with CannabisClub.ch does not replace pilot-trial eligibility, a medical prescription or any authorisation that future legislation might require. A privately announced opening date cannot change current law either.

How to check a new announcement

First check the publisher, date and procedural stage described. Then ask whether the announcement concerns a proposal, a decision or rules already in force. A prediction for a particular year should clearly be presented as a prediction.

Check its scope too: a local trial does not establish unrestricted access throughout Switzerland. An announced business launch does not establish an authorisation. These materials cannot support binding promises about a date, price or access.

Questions about the legislative process

Is a launch in 2027 or 2029 confirmed?
The official documents reviewed here do not confirm a binding general launch date. Those years should not be presented as an established commencement date.
Will club membership entitle me to obtain THC cannabis?
Membership alone creates no statutory entitlement. Future eligibility will depend on the final law and any necessary authorisations.
Do pilot trials amount to general legalisation?
No. They are approved scientific trials with their own eligibility rules, rather than a general recreational market.
Can a private club set the launch date?
It can announce its own plans, but cannot determine when legislation takes effect or grant itself legal approval.

THC products are not freely available in Switzerland outside a prescription or approved pilot projects. Today we sell legal CBD products only.
