Bedrocan (Netherlands) is the main supplier of standardised medical cannabis flowers in Swiss pharmacies. Four chemovars, all GMP-certified.
Four standardised chemovars: Bedrocan, Bedica, Bediol, Bedrolite.
THC content: 6.5–22 %; CBD content: 0–9 %.
GMP-certified, batch-consistent (± 0.5 % cannabinoid variance).
Price: CHF 15–22/g in Swiss pharmacies (import + surcharge).
Only via vaporizer — do not smoke.
The four Bedrocan chemovars
Bedrocan uses exclusively standardised genetics with reproducible cannabinoid and terpene profiles. The four available strains cover the entire THC/CBD spectrum.
- Bedrocan (THC 22 % / CBD < 1 %) — Sativa-dominant, clear
- Bedica (THC 14 % / CBD < 1 %) — Indica-dominant, sedating
- Bediol (THC 6.3 % / CBD 8 %) — 1:1, balanced
- Bedrolite (THC < 1 % / CBD 9 %) — CBD-dominant, non-psychoactive
Use and dosing
Recommended use: vaporizer at 180–210 °C (never smoke — combustion by-products). Starting dose: 0.05–0.1 g per inhalation, 1–3× daily. Increase per tolerance.
Alternative: cannabis tea (0.5 g flowers in 500 ml water with 20 g fat, 15 min boil). Oral onset: 30–90 min. Inhalation: 2–10 min.
Price and availability
Ex-factory Bedrocan: CHF 12–15/g. In Swiss pharmacies with narcotic surcharge and tax points: CHF 15–22/g. A 5 g container (typical prescription size) costs CHF 75–110.
Availability: only pharmacies with narcotic authorisation, mostly by order (2–5 business days). Main locations: Zurich, Berne, Geneva, Lausanne, Basel.
Insurance coverage
Basic insurance: only in exceptional cases with prior approval (mainly oncology, palliative, MS). Supplementary insurance partially covers it. Without coverage: CHF 300–800/month depending on consumption.
Important: for foreign travel apply for Schengen certificate; outside Schengen, complex import rules.
Why Bedrocan and not other flowers?
Bedrocan has been EU-recognised since 2003 and delivers standardised GMP-certified batches. Alternative suppliers (Aurora, Tilray) are emerging but less established in Swiss pharmacies.
Can I smoke Bedrocan flowers?
Medically not recommended — combustion creates harmful by-products. Vaporizers (e.g. Storz & Bickel Mighty Medic) are the standard.
How much Bedrocan per prescription?
Standard prescription: 5–15 g per Rx, 30-day validity. Higher amounts possible for chronic cases with prior approval.
What does Bedrocan cost in Switzerland?
CHF 15–22 per gram with pharmacy surcharge. Monthly need (10–20 g): CHF 150–440.
Which Bedrocan strain for which indication?
Chronic pain: Bedica or Bediol. Nausea/appetite loss: Bedrocan. Anxiety/anti-inflammatory: Bedrolite. Insomnia: Bedica.
Bedrocan flowers are prescription-controlled narcotics. Only legally available under medical supervision with a narcotic prescription.
